So What’s New in AutoCad 2014?
Sharing A Workspace
AutoCAD 2014 brings increased focus on collaboration between users. This is done via signing into AutoCAD 360 cloud based service which also enables cloud based computer power for renderings, performance analysis and point cloud data. The Design Feed features lets users communicate in real-time. On sending a message to tagged people, they receive email notifications and view your drawing online and reply from either the app or the mobile companion app or the web version.
Interface Overhaul for Multiple Documents
Multiple documents opening feature in separate tabs of their own is new addition. The tabs can be turned on or off and an overflow button lets access to more tabs if opened. A lock sign on tab indicates read only drawing whereas asterisk implies a drawing with unsaved changes. Hovering over any tab, which is not the current tab, pops up a mini window, which features a zoomed out view of the drawing in the tab. Right click on tabs opens up options to save, close, create and other options.
The AutoCAD Command Line
The command line can now predict the nearest command if you misspell it in typing. Further, the command suggestion now searches for the typed string in all commands, not just commands beginning with it. The order of display in suggestion list is initially preset by general data but as you use it more, the system learns the often-used commands and suggests more relevant ones. Also, the command line features synonym list, which will find the closest meaning command. Hovering mouse over commands brings in icons, which provide offline and online documentation.
Integration of Map Data
Geographic/Map data can be incorporated in drawings from online resources and the data is placed and scaled accordingly. Having GPS enabled device connected with allow AutoCAD to use the current location’s map data as well. However to use Maps Service, the user must be logged in to their AutoCAD 360 accounts. Maps can either be aerial views, roadmaps or hybrids as well and are always placed beneath the drawing.
AutoCAD 2014 has support for point cloud project files (RCP) and multi indexed scan files (RCS). AutoCAD now features a vast array of tools to manipulate point clouds and construct geometry. Layers are now sorted in ascending order instead of random. Security is also improved for running third party macros.
